iMac Pro to Launch Sooner Than Expected

Apple's high-end iMac Pro with Apple silicon will launch as soon as spring 2022, according to recent reports.

Display analyst Ross Young, who often reveals accurate insights into Apple's plans, recently said that Apple's new "‌iMac‌ Pro" will launch in the spring of next year, with spring in the Northern Hemisphere starting on March 20 and ending on June 21. Apple often holds an event in the spring, so we could perhaps see the new ‌iMac‌ come out at the annual spring event.

While a redesigned high-end ‌iMac‌ has been expected for several years, the launch date has been unspecific beyond 2022 until recently. Some reports suggested that the new ‌iMac‌ would be coming out sooner rather than later, it quickly became clear that it is instead destined for next year. Young first narrowed the timeframe down to the first quarter of 2022, before settling on the spring.

Multiple reports have indicated that the new high-end ‌iMac‌ will be called the "‌iMac‌ Pro," which could help Apple simplify its naming strategy and differentiate it from the 24-inch ‌iMac‌ with the M1 chip.

Contrary to earlier rumors that suggested the new ‌iMac‌ could have a larger display, in a previous report Young said that the ‌iMac‌ would retain the same 27-inch display size but use a mini-LED panel with ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz, just like the latest high-end MacBook Pro models.

The machine is also expected to feature a new, slim design, extra ports, options for the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, and more, all for an approximate cost of at least $2,000. For additional information about the new ‌iMac‌ Pro, see our detailed rumor guide.
