Next-Generation iMac: Quad-Core Processors? No Blu-Ray?
In a brief report, AppleInsider notes that it has received unconfirmed information from several sources indicating several changes from information offered in a previous report issued late last month regarding Apple's next iMac revision, which is expected in the very near future. According to the new information, the next-generation iMac may be the first to offer quad-core processors in the form of Core i7 "Clarksfield" mobile processors from Intel. Additionally, previously rumored Blu-ray support may not be included in the new models.
More specifically, people close to the Cupertino-based company have picked up on chatter suggesting that earlier plans to offer Blu-ray technology on the new all-in-one desktops may have been pulled back just before the systems went into product last month.
While inconsistent with AppleInsider's earlier report, the claim of quad-core processors does agree with information offered by Mac4Ever late last month, and the rumor of no Blu-ray support echoes a claim made earlier this month by Daring Fireball's John Gruber, who also had previously heard that such support would be included.Top Rated Comments

Doesn't it mention Blu Ray being in the higher end models though? I could live without Blu Ray, it would be nice but oh well. But anything that makes it better for gaming, it should have it :D.

Well, I don't care about blu ray support in Mac, I'd prefer better specs, like an up to date Quadro FX or something like that.

I really do not think that the new iMac will have a quad core. If this where to happen then it would eat into the mac pro quad core line up. So until they are updated (6 core) then we will not likely see a quad iMac. Blue Ray would be nice

Hahaha, Blu Ray to first appear in a consumer product? Yea right. You can expect Blu Ray to appear in the MacPro first, for us Professionals.

Personally I could care less about Blu-Ray. The superdrive as-is works for the majority of consumers. Professionals in the video production industry are those who would benefit from such an inclusion.

I don't really care about bluray on a computer at this time. I have my PS3 in my home theater and it performs beautifully. Until there is a solution to easily rip bluray movies and put them on a server and be able to watch them on my home theater and it is also cheap enough and I am still able to get full 5.1/7.1 lossless PCM audio, then may be!!
At this time the iMac having bluray is not the answer!

Apple have no reason to offer workstation cards. The benefits are optimised drivers, support, certification and in some cases larger memory and special conectivity options. Apple offer the first 3 on their consumer cards which cost them a lot less to buy.
