Apple recently announced that a major change is coming to Apple Fitness+ to accommodate people who do not own an Apple Watch.

Since its launch, Apple Fitness+ has been dependent on an Apple Watch. Later this year, iPhone users will be able to subscribe to Apple Fitness+ in all 21 countries where the service is offered, even if they do not have an Apple Watch.

The change will give ‌iPhone‌ users access to the entire service, featuring over 3,000 studio-style workouts and meditations. Fitness+ users that do not have an Apple Watch will still see onscreen trainer guidance and interval timing, and estimated calories burned will be used to make progress on their Move ring.

Notably, the Fitness app itself in iOS 16 is available to all ‌iPhone‌ users for the first time, even if they don't use an Apple Watch. ‌iPhone‌ users can set up a daily Move goal in the Fitness app and see how their active calories help to close their Move ring. The ‌iPhone‌'s motion sensors can track steps, distance, flights climbed, and workouts from third-party apps, which can be converted into an estimation of active calories to contribute to users' daily Move goal. Users can also share their Move ring with friends for additional motivation.

Fitness+ will be fully integrated with the Fitness app in ‌iOS 16‌ and located in the middle tab, where users can close their Move ring through awards, activity sharing, and more. Users will only need an ‌iPhone‌ to sign up, and can then experience Fitness+ on ‌iPhone‌, iPad, and Apple TV.

Fitness+ is available in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, the UAE, the UK, and the US.
