Eve Launches New HomeKit-Compatible Dimmer Switch

Smart home company Eve today announced the launch of the Eve Dimmer Switch, the company's first smart light switch replacement with dimming functionality. The Dimmer Switch replaces a traditional light switch and it can be used with standard bulbs and lights that have dimming functionality.

The Dimmer Switch has a rocker for turning lights on or off, along with touch support for incremental dimming control. It connects to HomeKit using Matter-over-Thread, and it can be controlled with the Eve app, the Apple Home app, or with Siri voice commands.

As with all ‌HomeKit‌ devices, automations are supported, and the Dimmer Switch can be paired with other smart home products. Remote control is available, and with Matter support, people in your home that use Android can also control the switch. You will need a hub for whichever platform you connect to, so for Apple ‌HomeKit‌, the HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV are Matter hubs.

Eve recommends that only electricians install the Eve Dimmer Switch because knowledge of electrical wiring is required. The switch needs a neutral wire and can replace a single-pole or 3-way switch. With a 3-way switch setup, only one switch in the circuit needs to be replaced.

The Dimmer Switch can be purchased from the Eve website for $50, and it will ship to customers in the United States and Canada in mid-March.

FINALLY. Good grief been waiting for this for years.

Their Thread Switch is rock solid and has not needed to be touched once since it was first setup. That's all I'm looking for. Unlike Leviton Decora which can't even reconnect to WiFi after an outage.

Does it require Internet/cloud connectivity? Or can it run on a private LAN that has no external connectivity?
It does not require internet connectivity.

It connects privately using the Matter protocol over the Thread network.

All you need is a Thread border router, like the Apple TV 4K (128GB) or HomePod mini, or one from another company.

Thread really delivers on its promise. It works so well. Always fast and responsive, always online, never needs babysitting. If cost and time were not a factor, I would replace all 20+ Decora Smart Dimmers in a heartbeat with these. As it is, I will start replacing them one at a time as they fail, because they do, every few months.

This sounds like a great product for many people. However, I'll stick with my Lutron Caseta Diva dimmers. I love having a physical slider to change the dimming. Plus Lutron uses ClearConnect in the 434 MHz band. It's a wide open band with no interference, and it goes through walls really well. I have 50+ Lutron products in my house, and they are the most rock solid products in my HomeKit setup.

It may be obvious to some but can it be used for a ceiling fan? I hate how they lock their switches name now as “Light” even if I want to use it for a fan.
If that's what you want, you don't need dimmer functionality. The existing Eve "Light" Switch works just fine.

I have one controlling the extractor fan in my house; HomeKit runs it automatically every night from 2am to 5am forcing a "refresh" of the house air while I'm sleeping.

And yes, what people say is true. Some Eve products have been disappointing, but their Switches are worth the cost; they are expensive but also ridiculously reliable, just working without a hassle, year after year.
