Spotify's Web Player Support for Safari Browser Has Been Restored

Spotify users can once again use Safari to access the streaming service's web player, following the restoration of support for Apple's browser this week after over two-and-a-half years of incompatibility.

A Spotify support page explaining how to use the web player includes a list of supported web browsers, which has been updated to include Apple's browser alongside Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera.

Previously, users who visited the Spotify web player on Safari received the message, "This browser doesn't support Spotify Web Player. Switch browsers or download Spotify for your desktop."

Spotify confirmed the incompatibility between its web player and Safari in September 2017, but never fully explained the problem. One theory was that it had something to do with Google's Widevine media optimizer plugin, which Spotify used for music streaming on the web but Apple opposed on security grounds. Whatever it was, the issue now appears to have been resolved.

Serious question: Why would you use Spotify in Safari in stead of using its MacOS/iOS app?
Policies at work. I can’t even change my ugly wallpaper

So, I checked it out, kinda works, but you have to sign in, no problem I thought, my login credentials don't seem to work, next I saw the sign in with Apple, did that without showing my email, asks for my (OS) password, then directs me back where it is stated I need to connect my Spotify email with Apple Id...WTF, I thought signing in with Apple won't share my email...NOT.

Ah of course. I remember one time my former employer blocked even access to basically all websites, you couldn't even load a news website or check your mail over lunch. And another employer forced us to use Internet Explorer ugh..
My god do such cranky relics still exists. I am the IT manager at our 200 people company and people can do whatever they like as long on there PC as long as they follow the IT policy they signed. The responsibility is in their own hands and we do checkups from time to time. Worked for the past 7 years and people don’t look with hate to the IT guys anymore.

Blocking everything in 2020 does not make sense because people will just sit on their phones or the toilet all days anyway. Better let them check Facebook or the news for 5 minutes than being on their phones 2 hours during the day.

Also the wallpaper thing is beyond stupid. Lots of people use this to be reminded of their loved ones, pets or a cool trip they made.

I would fire people out of my IT department if they act like that.

So how long until Safari bites the bullet and switches to the Blink engine that Chrome/Edge/Brave uses? I feel like the Safari is getting worse and worse by each day in terms of compatibility with random websites. I'm not at all saying it's Safari's fault, but regardless it hurts us Safari users.
I would rather Safari keep doing its own thing rather than adopt blink. The vast majority of websites I visit has worked just fine, and Apple has enough of a mobile user base for major websites to make sure it works on it. In my experience websites that have issues are usually old sites or sites that are using experimental browser features. Blink needs a viable alternative.
