Jamf Survey Suggests Employees Using Macs See Higher Productivity, Creativity, and Collaboration

Apple and enterprise company Jamf recently teamed up to take a look at the drivers behind Mac adoption in the enterprise and the impact of device choice programs for employees on attracting talent. For the survey, 1,285 employees from various-sized companies across the world were asked a series of questions about Macs in the workplace, with the results suggesting high levels of employee satisfaction from Mac users. 97 percent of survey respondents said that using a Mac increased their productivity, while 95 percent said their creativity levels were up. 94 percent said they were more self-sufficient, and 91 percent said collaboration was up. According to the survey, 79 percent of respondents said that they would not be able to do their jobs as effectively without a Mac. On the topic of self-sufficiency, 40 percent of respondents had no issues with their Mac over the course of the last 12 months, and 70 percent experienced two or fewer issues. Of those who did have issues, the leading problem was related to the network, rather than the device itself. 74% who previously used a PC said they have fewer issues now that they use a Mac. When asked why they chose a Mac over a PC, most respondents cited a preference for Apple products, the ease of use and reliability of the Mac, and integration with the necessary apps needed for work. 72% of Enterprise Employees Choose Macs Over PCs, 75% Pick iOS Devices Over Android

Among enterprise organizations that allow employees to choose their equipment of choice, Apple is becoming an increasingly popular choice, according to new survey information shared this morning by Apple IT management platform Jamf. 52 percent of enterprise organizations let employees choose their computers, while 49 percent let employees choose their mobile devices. Of those organizations, 72 percent of employees included in Jamf's survey chose Mac, while 28 percent chose PC. As for mobile devices, 75 percent of respondents chose an iPhone or an iPad, while just 25 percent opted for an Android device. According to employees, the ability to choose their operating systems and devices of choice makes them more productive. 68 percent said choice improves productivity, and 77 percent said they're more likely to stay with a company that offers device choice."When it comes to attracting and retaining top talent in the enterprise, the job landscape is more competitive than ever," said Dean Hager, CEO, Jamf. Apple and SAP's Enterprise Cloud Platform SDK for iOS Now Available

Back at Mobile World Congress in February, Apple and enterprise application software company SAP, which first teamed up in 2016 announced plans to launch the SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS in March, and as of today, the SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS has been made available. Key Enterprise Executive Leaves Apple

John Solomon, Apple's vice president for enterprise and government, left the company recently, Apple confirmed to Reuters. Solomon sold Apple products to major businesses and government entities. Prior to joining Apple in 2015, Solomon was a longtime Hewlett-Packard executive who ran the company's global consumer printing business. According to Reuters, it is not immediately clear if Solomon's departure will have an impact on Apple's enterprise business, nor is it known why he left the company. Since 2014 when it inked a deal with IBM, Apple has been ramping up its enterprise efforts to sell more products to big businesses. Apple today announced an enterprise partnership with Deloitte, which will see Deloitte creating an Apple practice with more than 5,000 "strategic advisors" focused on providing businesses with guidance on how to "change the way they work," updating technology on all of their systems, from retail to R&D to inventory management. iOS Continues to Lead Enterprise Despite Decline in Tablet Market

iOS remained the top platform for smartphone activations in the second quarter, despite its overall market share falling from 70% to 64%, according to Good Technology's twelfth quarterly Q2 Mobility Index Report. Android trailed behind with 32% market share during the quarter, up from 26% last quarter, while Windows rose to 3% market share to finish a distant third place. iOS retains the top spot in the enterprise tablet market, but Android is closing the gap iOS saw its market share drop from 81% to 64% in the tablet market, a sharp decline from the iPad's previous 80% to 90% dominance in the enterprise, while Android grew from 15% to 25% during the second quarter. Windows rose from 4% to 11%, a notable increase given that Microsoft's operating system represented just 1% market share two quarters ago. iOS continued to lead in regulated industries, including the public sector (79%), education (76%), healthcare (70%), insurance (65%) and financial services (63%). Meanwhile, Android moved ahead of iOS in the high-tech sector with 53% of device activations and also experienced growth in the energy (48%) and manufacturing (42%) sectors. IBM Expands MobileFirst for iOS Portfolio With Three New Apps

IBM on Monday announced the expansion of its MobileFirst for iOS portfolio with three new enterprise apps for the banking and financial services, airline and retail industries. The new made-for-business apps available for customization and deployment in the enterprise today include Passenger Care for travel agents, Dynamic Buy for retail buyers and Advisor Alerts for financial professionals. “Apple and IBM are the only companies that could partner to develop a new category of made-for-business apps that is truly transforming how works gets done,” said Fred Balboni, IBM General Manager, IBM and Apple partnership. “We set out to transform how millions of workers consume, process and use information when they are outside the four walls of the office. Following a partnership announced over the summer, Apple and IBM have today introduced the first in a line of mobile business apps that target a wide range of industries and businesses. Dubbed "IBM MobileFirst for iOS", the suite of ten apps hopes to "bring IBM’s big data and analytics capabilities to iPhone and iPad users." With the initial batch including apps focused on the finance, air-travel, and banking industries, IBM also confirmed a few clients including Citi, Air Canada, Sprint, and Banorte will support the MobileFirst program starting today. “What we’re delivering aims directly at the new quest of business—smart technologies that unlock new value at the intersection of big data and individual engagement,” said Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president, IBM Global Business Services. “Our collaboration combines IBM’s industry expertise and unmatched position in enterprise computing, with Apple’s legendary user experience and excellence in product design to lift the performance of a new generation of business professionals.” One of the ten apps, Sales Assist, is retail-focused and, for example, allows workers to view customer profiles with extensive back-history on previous purchases to help make informed suggestions tailored to specific users. Android Slips as Apple Gains Enterprise Market Share in Q3 2014

Reversing a trend of quarterly declines, Apple's iOS mobile operating system gained market share this past quarter as it continued to dominate in the enterprise market. Apple's expansion came at Android's expense, which lost ground, according to Good Technology's latest Mobility Index Report (via VentureBeat). In Q3 2014, iOS device activations in the enterprise sector grew two percentage points, expanding from 67 to 69 percent. Android, concomitantly, slipped 2 percent, accounting for 29 percent of net device activations. Windows Phone remained a very distant third with only 1 percent of activations, a figure that has remained flat for the past six quarters. Much of Apple's quarterly gain can be attributed to the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which caused a surge in iOS device activations in September. Good Technology says “The release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus accounted for all of this gain.” More specifically, iOS was down to 66 percent of activations in July and August, but comprised 73 percent of September activations thanks to sales of the new devices. In the tablet enterprise market, Apple also remained the dominant tablet manufacturer with its iPad models, but faced an increasing challenge from Android tablets. Enterprise Information Workers Favor Microsoft Tablets and Apple Phones

Information workers in the enterprise sector would like a Microsoft tablet but an Apple phone, according to Forrester Research's annual Mobile Workforce Adoption Trends survey of 10,000 enterprise staff (via AppleInsider). For tablets, preferences were 32% Microsoft Surface, 26% iPad and 12% Android tablet. For phones, the figures were 33% iPhone, 22% Android and just 10% Windows Phone. Notably, 79% of respondents said that they don't currently use a tablet for work purposes, with only 17% saying that they're not interested in using one, suggesting that there remains a substantial market opportunity should companies be willing to support tablets. The Surface tablet has so far received a generally lukewarm reception, with many taking the view that trying to be both a tablet and a laptop left it compromised in both roles, so Microsoft will undoubtedly be encouraged by this evidence that it may yet succeed in the enterprise
