Samsung Copies Another Apple Watch Feature

Samsung has implemented another feature that has long been available with the Apple Watch, it has been discovered.

Samsung is often criticized by passionate Apple customers for allegedly copying from the Cupertino-based company. In 2015, observers could not help but notice the Samsung Gear S2's arrangement of circular icons, which bore a striking similarity to the Apple Watch's app view. When Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Active 2, the company was likewise called out for using a number of watch faces that were very similar to Apple's offerings at the time.

Now, Samsung has released a Walkie-Talkie app for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Apple launched the Walkie-Talkie app three years ago as a way for users to send short, live voice messages to another Apple Watch owner they know.

Screenshots of Samsung's app on the Google Play Store reveal a similar interface to Apple's Walkie-Talkie, featuring a large button to tap and hold to talk. Samsung describes the app as follows:

The Walkie-Talkie app is an exclusive Galaxy Watch app, which allows two or more users to have instant conversations, just like if they were using a walkie-talkie.

Create an instant Walkie-Talkie channel on your Galaxy Watch and enjoy instant conversations right away with the friends, colleagues or family members who are in your Contacts and using the Watch.

While the Apple Watch only allows two people to join in on a conversation, Samsung's version allows for "two or more users," but otherwise functionality appears to be the same.

The Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are the only devices compatible with the new app and it is now available on the Google Play Store. Apple's equivalent Walkie-Talkie app is installed by default on the Apple Watch.
