Apple to Redirect (PRODUCT)RED Proceeds to COVID-19 Relief Efforts Through September

Apple says the COVID-19 Response Mechanism will provide critical support in countries with health systems most threatened by outbreak and, in turn, help preserve lifesaving HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa that (RED) proceeds usually go towards. The funds will go towards personal protective equipment like masks, diagnostics treatment, lab equipment, public safety communications, supply chain support, and more.

Apple sells a wide variety of products in the special (PRODUCT)RED color, including the just-announced second-generation iPhone SE, various iPhone and iPad cases and accessories, Apple Watch bands, and select Beats headphones and speakers.

Can we please stop the madness?

Nobody ever cared about seasonal influenza, including Apple, before all of this bs happened. Donate your money to that, which is a massive killer every single year...that nobody still seems to care about.

Nice.

But virtue signal all over the place, Tim. Make your Wall Street masters proud.
BS?

Did the last seasonal influenza require New York City to have 85 large refrigerated trailers brought in because city and hospital morgues could not handle the volume of daily COVID-19 deaths?

That's just one of hundreds of reasons "nobody cared" as much about seasonal influenza.

I can’t speak for other manufacturers, but I don’t think Apple’s charged more for any (RED) variant. They just donate a portion of the profits that they’d otherwise keep.
They actually did on their very, very first special red (not RED) device... which may be what popped into op’s mind.
It was a U2 iPod that was black & red.
I think it was $100 more- but also came w/ a larger capacity than you could get otherwise.

Christ... it occurs to me I know too many pieces of useless trivia about Apple. ?

I'm a little confused. I thought in the past that there was an extra charge for product(RED) items from Apple (and, I expect, from other retailers). But when I go to the Apple website and price out the phone, it shows the same price for the product(RED) version as it does when I choose the same configuration in either of the other colors.

Happy to see Apple doing this!

I bought the Product Red iPhone 7 - Which Apple released in March 2017... Gave It to my mom as a gift

I actually got a lot of people comment on that red iPhone 7 carrying it around, I’d like to see Apple come out with a red iPhone 11 Pro!

They used to do so. The last product(RED) item I purchased from Apple was an iPod nano for my daughter a few years ago, and that model was something like $10 more expensive than the other colors, for that reason. But if they have changed the mechanics of it all that's cool.

I, too, remember the U2 iPod: it was black with red elements, maybe the scroll wheel (I'm sure I can just look it up on a search engine, but I'm trying to use my remaining memory, lol). That wasn't a product(RED) item, just a special version of the iPod, which had only been white up to that point.

Like anyone is buying ANY Red products until the new phone comes out. Amazing how this generous offer ends before the new iphone. Plus RED products are always too little too late, released at the end of the rush.
They just announced a new iPhone today, including a product(RED) version.
