The MacRumors Show: Can Google Finally Beat Apple With Pixel Watch?

The Pixel Watch features a striking round design with a 41mm stainless steel casing, and offers an always-on display, 24-hour battery life, and Fitbit sleep tracking, for a price of $349. With Apple Watch features like blood oxygen monitoring, ECG, Fall Detection, Emergency SOS, 32GB of memory, and more, we talk through how the Pixel Watch compares to Apple's long-reigning smart watch.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro offer many features that will be familiar to iPhone users such as 2x crop mode to simulate a telephoto lens, Cinematic Blur for video, Active Stabilization mode, and Face Unlock, but adds faster Night Sight, Photo Unblur, 8GB or 12GB of memory, and the custom-silicon Tensor G2 chip. The devices look to directly compete with Apple's latest ‌iPhone‌ 14 and ‌iPhone‌ 14 Pro models, but undercut them in price by about $100.

Google also offered an early look at the Pixel Tablet that is set to launch next year – a device that will undoubtedly compete with the iPad. The tablet comes alongside a speaker dock that charges the device and turns it into a home-focused device to glance at information, display photos, and control smart home accessories.

Nothing labeled “Pixel” will ever “beat” Apple because most consumers are too smart to trust Google’s hardware division to support anything longer than 2 years. We don’t need to relitigate this every fall ad nauseum. Google hardware and software is crap.

The MacRumors Show: Can Google Finally Beat Apple With Pixel Watch?
Why does Google (or anyone else) have to beat Apple (or another company)? As long as a company offers a solid product that people want and buy, that's enough to keep other companies on their toes to try to improve and innovate.

That's how we got the Apple Watch Ultra. People (i.e. serious athletes) were buying Garmin watches like the Fenix because the regular Apple Watch didn't offer what Garmin had.

I actually like the look of it, but it's also convinced me that a round smart watch is a bad idea.

Google shot themselves in foot by not using Google Fit as a main app for Pixels. Instead you buy Pixel Watch and have to use another app (Fitbit app) and after 6 months pay a subscription to fully use it.
Total joke compared to AW :D

Looks like it’s even more stupid than Fitbit

The beauty of Apple (Apple is not perfect) is that they launch a product group, and stick with it. Each year improving it, almost always without radical changes that break everything.

My Apple Watch 1 straps still fit my Apple Watch 6, and If I upgrade to Watch Ultra, they still will fit.

Google is famous for launching and killing product groups, without pushing/advertising them well enough to make them a lasting success.

So in a nutshell: Nope.
