First Episode of 'Ted Lasso' Season 2 Debuts on Apple TV+

"Ted Lasso," the most watched program on Apple TV+, saw its season two opening episode debut on the streaming service today. Apple is celebrating the premiere by giving the comedy series a full-page animated takeover on its website homepage.

"Ted Lasso" sees Jason Sudeikis reviving his Ted Lasso character that first debuted during the 2013 NBC Sports English Premier League coverage. In the ‌Apple TV+‌ show, Sudeikis plays a small-time college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer.

The second season has been widely anticipated and was promoted by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company's April event. The show regularly takes pride of place at the top of Apple's official ‌‌Apple TV+‌‌ website, and also has a line of official merchandise associated with it.

For its first season, "Ted Lasso" received a record-breaking 20 Emmy nominations, the most of any comedy in its first season. It also won multiple awards, including a Golden Globe for Jason Sudeikis, who plays the show's namesake main character.

The second season of the show, which consists of 12 episodes, sees Sarah Niles joining the cast. New episodes will be released every Friday on ‌‌‌‌Apple TV+‌‌‌‌. Apple has already renewed the show for a third season, which the creators of the show have hinted may be its last.

Apple will never catch up to Netflix. We keep hearing news for this one Apple TV+ series, which I have zero interest in, while Netflix is debuting multiple series every single week including many international shows. Netflix also dominates awards for all streaming services.

Should have bought Netflix when Apple had the chance.
I’m not sure they should ‘catch up to Netflix’. That would likely mean lots of abandoned concepts, filler and scattergun content.

I’m enjoying the premium feel of Apple TV+.

I feel like most people who dismiss Apple+ haven’t watched a single show. It’s quickly become the new HBO in terms of quality content.

Netflix's overall quality and production value are top-notch. The value I get for my Netflix subscription is incredible.

If Netflix produces 20 shows, and 10 are hits, and 10 are duds, you're still getting 10 hits. Apple TV+ will give you 2 shows, 1 hit, and 1 dud.
In the past 24 months I think I watched 2 Netflix series (Kominsky Method and Mrs. Maisel) while watching and thoroughly enjoying 5 or 6 Apple series. By no means is Ted Lasso the only good show. It’s very good but I like other series much more.

I don ‘t know your definition of quality but a 50/50 hits to duds ratio on Netflix seems like an exaggeration.

I'm not sure anyone is even trying to "catch up" to Netflix.

Netflix releases 700 new series a year. Not 700 episodes... 700 entire series.

What's that old saying... quality over quantity?

Agreed, no way does Netflix have a hit rate of 50%. They do have an insane amount of content, but so much throwaway stuff like all the rushed comedy specials.

Seen Netflix trajectory in the US (dropping like a rock) I would say Apple definitely has a chance to catch up in the long run. The average quality of the shows is vastly superior so far.
