iPhone 17 Lineup Rumored to Support Up to 35W Charging Speeds

Those hoping for significantly faster wired charging speeds with the iPhone 17 lineup this year might be disappointed, if the latest rumor is true.

In a note with investment firm GF Securities, obtained by MacRumors this week, Apple supply chain analyst Jeff Pu said the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will all support up to 35W wired charging speeds.

Last year, ChargerLAB found that the iPhone 16 Pro models achieved maximum sustained charging speeds of around 30W. In one image, the website showed the iPhone 16 Pro Max reaching a peak charging speed of 37W with Apple's 140W USB-C power adapter, but it is unclear how long the device kept charging at that speed.

PhoneArena saw similar results with the standard iPhone 16. In its review last year, it said that device reached a peak charging speed of 38W when it was "under extremely heavy loads such as benchmark testing or playing games." The website said the iPhone 16 achieved a sustained charging speed of closer to 20W.

All in all, with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models already reaching peak wired charging speeds in the 35W range, it sounds like there will be no significant improvement to wired charging speeds with any of the iPhone 17 models.

Pu did not reveal wireless MagSafe charging speeds for any iPhone 17 models. iPhone 16 models can charge at up to 25W with MagSafe.

I hope this polarizing rendering isn't going to accompany every iPhone 17 article from now until September.

All I know is that all this fast and wireless charging has made my iPhone 15 Pro's battery health drop quite fast. 10% between launch day and today.

With my Apple Watch Series 10, I went back to the old charging cables with USB-A and I only keep fast charging for when I really need it, and this is the only advice I can give to people. I'm not for putting a charging limit on it because I sometimes need the full 100% capacity and I don't want to be thinking about my phone's battery all the time, but using a normal USB-A charger doesn't require thinking about all the time.

I feel I'm becoming this grumpy anti-Apple gremlin. But I've paid 2000$, out of my own pocket for the a iPhone. I have a M1 12.9 iPad Pro..and I'm getting a MacBook Prod this sommer so...here goes.

Apple is 3 generations "behind" with their phone hw....from where they used to be at least. The 16 is for all purposes intent the same as the 14. But even the 16 is "stale" compared to the biggest Android competitors. 60hz? Slow charging? In 2025? The Pros not a pro anymore...it's just got one camera more.

Fine....I'll say it. There's nothing sexy about an iPhone anymore. Its a TupperWare box...it's sort of a Playmo car. It's becoming a generic store brand of a phone. It was always sexy. ALWAYS. Its always been its main selling point. It was cool. Its not anymore.

I used to love spending money on a phone....now it's like buying a....dishwasher.

And I'm not using AI against Apple..which was the most botched release of anything they've ever done. Not because it's bad, per se, but because how high they went during the theatre presentation. It's still not really here...and were getting into iphone 17 territory soon.

So....

If that's the camera layout they're going for this year, that is so ugly.

But hey, you get to charge your ugly phone faster.
