Apple Maps Begins Surveying Hong Kong for 'Look Around'

As part of its continued push to expand the availability of features to more locations worldwide, Apple has begun to survey Hong Kong for Apple Maps' "Look Around" feature, which offers users a 360-degree immersive panoramic look of a city or location.

Apple says that it is surveying all of Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong islands, Kowloon, New Territories, and the Macao Bridge. Image collection started this month and is expected to continue until July.

Apple says that privacy remains a core attribute to its efforts to survey any location or city, including Hong Kong. For example, Apple automatically blurs faces and vehicle license plates that may have appeared in its images. However, users can also request that other personal information or property that may have been caught on camera be blurred before publication on ‌Apple Maps‌.

I am a Hongkonger. Thanks for all your interest in discussion about Hong Kong.
Yes although we have many more little islands in HK, when we say “Hong Kong Island” we are referring to the big one only. In Cantonese we say “Hong Kong dou” or “”Kong dou”.

When we talk about the other little islands, we’ll say “lei dou” (means outlying islands), or each of their individual names. 😄

Finally. Apple has been ignoring Hong Kong for a long long time. Apple Arcade isn’t available here despite being available in hundreds of other countries.

Apple and other US tech firms should actually be doing more to pull out of China. China has a horrid human rights record.

Not sure how popular the British view on this will prove to a Hongkonger, but here "Hong Kong" covers the whole territory, of which Hong Kong Island is one part, but the territory of Hong Kong also comprises several other islands, so the phrase "Hong Kong islands" is perfectly correct.

Happy to be corrected if this isn't how an actual Hongkonger would use the term.
Hong Kong Islands is not a term a Hong Konger would recognize. The territory is colloquially known as Hong Kong. While Hong Kong is the island only, in HK it's known as Hong Kong Island.
