Apple TV+ Billie Eilish Documentary Drew Record Number of New Subscribers

"Billie Eilish: The World's A Little Blurry" has become the biggest Apple TV+ hit among young adults so far and has driven a record number of new subscribers to the service, according to Deadline.

Apple does not divulge subscriber numbers or viewing figures for ‌Apple TV‌+, but according to industry sources speaking to Deadline, the documentary drew a record-breaking 33 percent new viewers to the service. Young adult audiences reportedly fueled the momentum of new subscribers since the film premiered on Thursday, February 25, and half of the film's audience came from outside the United States.

The documentary is described as a "true coming of age story," following the young singer-songwriter and her rise to stardom. It offers an intimate look into her journey as a seventeen-year-old navigating life on the road, stage, and at home with her family while she writes, records, and releases her first album.

Apple paid $25 million for the R.J. Cutler-directed documentary in December 2019, battling against other streaming services for the rights in a bidding war. The record-breaking increase in subscribers and the capture of the young adult audience indicates that the move seems to have paid off.

Cant wait for all the “who is he?” And “her music is terrible” comments about to appear by people who don’t know or listen to new music. ?

for the record, Billie Eillish is awesome.
I’m an old fart and I think she’s talented.

I mean she’s freakin’ 19 years old! I was hanging out at the mall at that age.

Never judge a book by its cover. Give her a listen before you judge.

OK, I'll defer to that assessment, as I don't know the first thing about her. But it IS a little weird to me just how much coverage this show has gotten the last little while. Surely she didn't cure cancer or something. I just don't get why this is flung in front of me so often. There have been other documentaries that have flown entirely below the radar. I don't get why this person is so special.

This was a brilliant move by Apple and targeted their favored demographic. Eilish is edgy yet inoffensive, and she has an unpretentious screen presence that makes her really relatable to that demographic. IMO her brother is a brilliant audio engineer and is a big part of her success. It will be interesting to see how she continues to evolve as an artist.

Judging from the sheer number of comments here this is a great thing! Glad to see Apple finally making the transition from a creative content tool creator company to a consumer services company! Bravo Tim!
