I've heard multiple outlets this year refer to these as Write Off sales, as in tax write offs for the end of the year. We're moving towards a future where we are constantly in a state of sale. And if we're constantly sailing the sales, are we actually saving?

Thanks!

All store chains are using extended sales early because consumers can’t shop in store to reduce certain inventory before end of January (tax’s)

Keep the holiday spirit alive with savings from these after-Christmas sales ('https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/26/cnn-underscored/after-christmas-sales-2020/index.html?iid=CNNUnderscoredHPcontainer') - CNN

You can see many store chains are doing this by the above article. So yes we are constantly in a state of sale. ;)
