Face ID is inconsistent. That's what I keep hearing. That's why I didn't pre-order this year and that's why I'll wait. Maybe until the Xs phone next year. Production problems with the parts that make up Face ID that resulted in production problems with the overall production of the phone. Not surprising that there are reviewers having problems with it. Hopefully they get it it perfected by next year, or succeed in putting fingerprint ID under the screen by then.

I love the sudden collective amnesia on here about the fact that touchID doesn't work if your fingers or the sensors are wet, dirty etc. Sounds to me like faceID will have a similar set of limited circumstances under which it won't work ideally: it's just they will be different to those under which touchID doesn't work well. It doesn't seem any more hassle to me to have to hold my phone a bit closer to my face than to have to wipe the phone or my hands down on a cloth.

bright sun lighting will cause problems with the Face ID.... But we'l see how bad it will be.

It's not going to be a problem here in the UK ;)

A bunch of popular tech YouTubers also already have the iPhone X and have done unboxings, such as iJustine moments ago.

I wonder why Apple decided to let them all get one early this year as they usually have to wait until Friday like the rest of us.

That's not true. Go back to last year. The review embargo was lifted on a Tuesday, not a Friday.

because the pre-orders didnt go as well as previous years, so they need to build a hype as fast as possible. And that is also why Apple sent out first units to people for whom they know they'll go on their knees or bend over to Apple and make a "its awesome!" review just for a chance to be among the first reviewers.

I went straight to iMore. I love how Rene is both excited, as well as critical of some aspects,

I disagree, he seems to make excuses when Apple missteps, he seems heavily invested in promoting apple as opposed to being independent

The thing that seems to crop up again and again in these reviews is Face ID and how inconsistent it is.

These reviews are just confirming what I expected all along. The iPhone X should be called the iPhone Compromise Edition

If it wasn't for sites like The Verge and their Apple TV 4K review Apple probably would have never implemented auto mode switching so I for one am grateful that they are actually critical of the X and this is coming from someone who has one arriving on Friday.
