15 Inch Aluminum PowerBook G4 Battery Recall
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities, Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from January 2004 through August 2004 for use with 15-inch PowerBook G4 (Aluminum) notebook computers. These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.
Apple has initiated an exchange program and will provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge. The recalled batteries have the Model Number: A1045 and serial numbers that begin with: HQ404, HQ405, HQ406, HQ407, or HQ408. Batteries with the affected serial numbers contain cells that were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea during the last week of December 2003 only.
Directions on how to participate in the recall if you have an affected machine are available on Apple's website.

hmm... wierd
Well I for one hope mine is in the recall, so I can get a fresh battery, maybe one that runs cooler too.
I saw this here.
Doh.. I guess I will have to do this battery exchange thing.
Although I find it humerous, just sitting there doing work and poof! Up in flames haha.
Crappy that this had to happen, maybe the replacements will better. Fresh new battery for everyone.
*edit* whoo I have a Hq42 battery, and I just got mine this month. whoo no need to replace.
Batteries Schmatteries! Laptop owners should just buy proper computers and stop moaning!!
;)
In all fairness it is a bummer, but I think the news is acting more public informationally rather than sensationalistic [please note that I don't think that 1 of those words actually exists]. It's good to hear that no users have actually been harmed.
I guess voluntarily is better than being force to by the law or a law suit.
Wow, and I thought my Rev A. 12" was a fire hazard...
they need to do a whole trade in for the rev A 12" that whole thing just gets wayyyyyy to hot. this sucks. apple is losing it..
Luckily I'm OK tho - HQ401 and Taiwan rather than South Korea
