M6 Pro Chip Result on Geekbench is Likely Fake

apple silicon 1 featureA supposed Geekbench result for an unreleased M6 Pro chip surfaced this week, but it is likely fake.

Geekbench creator John Poole informed MacRumors that he uncovered "internal inconsistencies" that lead him to believe that the M6 Pro result might not be legitimate. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple plans to skip M6 Pro and M6 Max chips entirely.

Why would someone go through the effort to fake a benchmark score for a chip all indications point to not ever being produced? Stir up clicks/discussion? Seems like a lot of effort for nothing.

I hope its not fake. A M6 Pro chip would go nicely in the OLED MacBook rather than the M5 Pro/Max

I’m not surprised there’s a bunch of stupid fake crap online these days, I’m just trying to understand what result/benefit someone is expecting by going through the effort of faking a benchmark. Just like lying about height, weight, penis length lol, you can’t escape reality. I guess like George Costanza said, “It’s not a lie, if you believe it.”
Look at all the comments about benchmarks for new chips/machines, both after MacRumors breathlessly posts news stories about them, and then as people spend their days trying to duplicate them in the forum proper. Over benchmarks. Benchmarks! Who cares?

If that attention went away, then so would the desire to fake results. But it never will, since there's a Very Online™ segment of customers who buy the latest and greatest just to throw down the ruler and see where their ePeen lies.

Hmmm... I didn't think there were very many people taking that M6 Pro Geekbench result seriously. A lot of us just assumed it was fake right from the outset. However, it's good to have confirmation that it is fake.
