How to Restart Apple Studio Display

by

The Studio Display is Apple's first-ever display to feature a built-in custom processor. It also lacks a power button, making it different from other monitors.

For one, the A13 Bionic chip inside the ‌Studio Display‌ is the same processor Apple used in the iPhone 11 series, and it drives the display's audio and camera systems. The inclusion of a dedicated computer processor also means the display has built-in ‌Siri‌ functionality even if the connected Mac doesn't have ‌Siri‌ support out of the box.

With the A13 chip, the ‌Studio Display‌ runs iOS, and Apple delivers firmware updates to the display like the software updates it often pushes out to iPhones and iPads. For that reason alone, it's not impossible that bugs or issues may occur after updating, therefore it's useful to know how you can restart the monitor, especially since there's no power button.

You can restart a ‌Studio Display‌ by following these three easy steps.

  1. Disconnect the plug from the electrical socket powering the ‌Studio Display‌.
  2. Wait at least five seconds.
  3. Plug the ‌Studio Display‌ back in and wait for it to power on.

That's all there is to it. The ‌Studio Display‌ will have now rebooted and hopefully whatever the problem that led you to restart it has been resolved and the monitor is working properly again.
