Don't Buy Apple Studio Display Now – New Model Coming Soon

If you're about to drop cash on an Apple Studio Display, you might want to hold off on that purchase. Several credible sources suggest Apple is planning a significant refresh for late 2025 or early 2026.

Display industry expert Ross Young, who accurately predicted iPhone 16 Pro screen sizes over a year in advance, reports that Apple's next Studio Display will retain the 27-inch form factor but add mini-LED backlighting. Such an upgrade would deliver dramatically improved brightness and contrast compared to the current model's traditional LED setup.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have echoed a similar launch timing for a new Studio Display, although Gurman recently pushed its release a little further away by suggested an early 2026 launch.

One report has also claimed that the new display will feature 90Hz refresh rate support – up from the current model's 60Hz – although this rumor lacks the same level of credibility. The higher refresh rate would make content like videos and text while scrolling look smoother to the eye, but 90Hz would seem an odd choice given that other high end monitors support up to 120Hz – not to mention iPhones and Macs with ProMotion.

Starting at $1,599, the current Studio Display launched in March 2022 and it hasn't had any hardware updates since. Given Apple's typical product cycles and the mounting evidence, waiting seems prudent for anyone not urgently needing a display.

Mini-LED technology would represent a substantial visual upgrade, potentially justifying the wait even if pricing increases. Unless your workflow demands immediate action, holding off could save you from buyer's remorse when the superior model arrives later this year or early 2026.
