Multiple iCloud Services Experiencing Issues

Several iCloud services are experiencing problems this afternoon, according to Apple's System Status Page.

iCloud Drive, iCloud Mail, iCloud Keychain, iCloud Contacts, iCloud Calendar, Mail Drop, Find My iPhone, and more are performing "slower than normal" for some users.

The problem has been ongoing since 8:51 a.m. Pacific Time this morning, and there's no word on when it might clear up.

If you've been noticing problems with iCloud services, this outage is the reason why. We'll update this post when the problem is resolved.

What's really been bugging me about iCloud is that since the last OS upgrade, I have to sign into iCloud every single time I boot my Mac, and then it proceeds with "Setting up your Mac". Every single time. I was told to sign out of iCloud and then sign back in, which I did. That fixed the problem for one reboot. I also don't like that if I sign out of iCloud and elect to save what's on my Mac, it deletes what's on my Mac. What is it with Apple and cloud services?

That sounds more like a problem with your OS

You mean Apple acknowledged the issue 8:51 a.m. Pacific Time. I’ve had iCloud mail issues for past 3 days.

Not positive, last I've read that iCloud's services relies in part on Amazon's servers. I use AWS with my business. I got an email from Amazon a few days ago that they were moving from Oracle's DB SW to Amazon's own Aurora PostgreSQL DB SW today (early this morning, I recall). AWS has been spotty all day, but I planned for it. I'd read that Aurora choked on Prime Day a few months ago, so no surprise today - I scheduled couriers today and tomorrow for critical deliveries and glad that I did now...

No, MacRumors published a story about it. Apple provides system status here: Apple's System Status Page ('https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/'). https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/

Rarely does that page match reality. There’s ALWAYS lag when Apple updates the status page.

My iPhone kept asking me to enter the Apple ID password last night. There was a line in the Settings app saying 'Update Apple ID Settings: Some account services will not be available until you sign in again.'

Even though I typed in my correct password, I was in an infinite loop...

I Googled the problem, and found a post with a similar case on Reddit (in 2015). Someone there said it was a widespread issue. I then went to the iCloud system status — bingo, iCloud-related services were (are) down.

It's coming back now. Luckily I didn't turn off & on iCloud, sign out, sign back in. Next time when there's an iCloud-related problem, check the status page first. But this outrage was quite long...

Wouldn’t that be a wicked twist in this novella?
