Apple has reportedly told its suppliers that it still wants to make up to 220 million iPhone units this year, a target that is less than what market experts were expecting. The company is asking suppliers to assemble roughly 220 million iPhones, about the same as last year, according to people familiar with its projections, who asked not to be named as they’re not public. But the mobile industry has gotten off to a difficult start to the year and production estimates are down across the board.
The unchanged target from 2021 comes despite Apple's struggles with meeting the demand for existing products. Multiple products, including the company's latest Macs, remain back-ordered for several weeks if not months due to supply chain woes fueled by COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
