A24 Film 'The Tragedy of Macbeth' With Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand Coming to Apple TV+

Apple today announced that it is teaming up with A24 for "The Tragedy of Macbeth," a drama that's set to star Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. "The Tragedy of Macbeth" is directed by Joel Coen, and is based on "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare.

It's the first film that's directed by just one Coen brother, and it will be in black and white. As a duo, the Coen brothers have produced hit movies like "The Big Lebowski," "No Country for Old Men," "Fargo," and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

Apple has a partnership with A24 and has previously teamed up with the film studio for "On the Rocks" starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones.

"The Tragedy of Macbeth" will be released in theaters later this year ahead of a launch on Apple TV+.

Black and white is going to be controversial. It is bold in this day and age. Audio and video are equally as important as storytelling, and from just a few post here you can see some will never watch it solely based on it being filmed in black and white. I couldn't imagine directing a movie and immediately losing out on people.

I am not in the camp that rule a movie out for that reason, but I know many people who feel like others here.
A Shakespeare movie with two leads in their 60s isn’t going to lose many over a thing like that. That guy up there bowing out already was never going to watch it anyway.

Young Frankenstein is another example of a black-and-white film from a color era, and a fantastic one at that. Given the Coen's excellent take on the Odyssey, I'm looking forward to seeing this Macbeth.
