So Anker is in the solar business now. I wonder if their solar generator device performs the function of a charge controller or if I would need a separate unit?

I have the solar panel kit from Harbor Freight ('https://www.harborfreight.com/100-watt-solar-panel-kit-63585.html') which includes everything needed. Mostly. Except a battery, but Harbor Freight has one available. If you need/want an AC outlet, you can buy an inverter and hook it up. We've been camping with it a few times and were able to keep phones and watches charged. The panels are very efficient and they appear to work even in low light. Setup is quick and easy.

I love the "Anker's Powerhouse II 777Wh Portable Solar Generator" ... a solar panel is not included.
Basically a solar battery... without the solar part.
Doesn't have to do anything with solar, yet its in the product name...

If it makes you feel any better, my 48 inch by 24 inch panel puts out 100 Watts on an overcast day in the middle of winter. It came in quite handy when the power where I live was knocked out for 7 days by an ice storm. When the virus is under control and I can go to a hotel for a few days, I am having my roof covered with solar panels, with lots of batteries.
