Hawking was a renowned scientist, cosmologist, astronomer, and mathematician. He authored several books, including his best-selling 1988 classic A Brief History of Time, which has sold more than 10 million copies.

Hawking was diagnosed with the degenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, at the age of 21. He was given just a few years to live, but battled the illness for more than five decades.

You guys can't even keep the negativity out of a thread commemorating an important figure.

I kinda doubt Tim knew much about Stephen's writings. Just trying to sound cool.

Importance is relative. I personally find Hawking's writings to be indulgent and arrogant.

What an arrogant thing to say.

Tim Cook will be writing A Brief History of Apple if we don't see some innovation soon.

Perhaps, but it is my opinion. Hawking actually KNOWS what happened prior to this universe coming into being? That to me is the epitome of arrogance (or stupidity).

Did you really read his work, or even his popular science books? He didn't claim he knows anything before Big Bang happened. In fact, he claimed that human has no way to know, and time and space as we know them are undefined before Big Bang since the laws of physics we know might not hold at singularity.

"Having not read someone else's work, makes wrong assumptions, and claims that person to be arrogant" is the epitome of arrogance (or stupidity).

What a fighter to keep pushing forward for so long, despite the odds stacked against him. People like to talk about his intelligence, but they fail to recognize the mental fortitude required to deal with the problems he had to deal with physically. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

His death took me by surprise. I mean, it shouldn’t, but it really did.
The world is incredibly lucky to have had such a brilliant mind for decades, well past his estimated life expectancy.

Rest in peace, Stephen. Your legacy will live on.
I will truly miss you, you’ve been such an inspiration and role model.
