The folks over at iPhone Dev Wiki posted a free SIM unlock tool for the iPhone. Similar to the other solutions, this software-only solution should allow you to SIM unlock your iPhone, allowing you to use any GSM cell phone carrier. Apple has flipped the switch and activated Ringtone functionality in iTunes.

An updated step-by-step to use your own Ringtones in iTunes 7.4.1 (thanks JPyre) 1 Rename aac file to .m4r using Get Info (command+I)
2 Double click file to open in itunes

5 Rename .m4r to .m4a again using Get Info
