iPad Mini 7 Could Be Coming Later This Year

The seventh-generation iPad mini appears to be in the works at Apple, according to the leaker known as "ShrimpApplePro."

In a thread of tweets that included details about the Apple Watch Series 9 and second-generation Apple Watch Ultra, the leaker said that they have seen evidence that at least one new iPad model is coming, likely the seventh-generation ‌iPad mini‌.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that an update this year with a minor "spec bump" is not out of the question. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the seventh-generation ‌iPad mini‌ is most likely to begin mass production in the first quarter of 2024.

ShimpApplePro's mention of the next-generation ‌iPad mini‌ alongside information about the new Apple Watch models that are expected to launch in the fall may suggest that the small tablet's launch may be sooner rather than later, but the leaker added that they will share more details on the matter in due course.

Like the 11th-generation ‌iPad‌, a chip upgrade may be the most likely feature coming to the next ‌iPad mini‌ – an aspect supported by other reports. The ‌iPad mini‌ currently contains the A15 Bionic chip. By early 2024, the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro are expected to be on sale touting the A16 Bionic and A17 Bionic, respectively, meaning that the ‌iPad mini‌ may be most likely to get one of these processors.

A minor spec bump could also include upgrades to the front and rear cameras, potentially bringing features like Photonic Engine to the ‌iPad‌ for the first time. ProRes video recording, Audio zoom, stereo audio recording, Portrait mode, and Portrait Lighting support are all plausible new features in this area.

The latest iPad Pro models brought connectivity upgrades like Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 to the ‌iPad‌ for the first time. By 2024, it seems highly likely that these capabilities will make their way to the ‌iPad mini‌. It is also possible that Apple Pencil hover, another ‌iPad‌ Pro-exclusive feature, could finally trickle down to the ‌iPad mini‌ in its next incarnation, but little is currently known about exactly what the refreshed device will offer.

With the next-generation version of iOS and other 2025 software updates, Apple is planning to change its numbering scheme. Rather than iOS 19, which would logically follow iOS 18, Apple is instead going to call the update iOS 26. Apple plans to use 26 across all of its platforms (the number representing the upcoming year), which will presumably be less confusing than having iOS 19, macOS 16,...

Im going to go off on a bit of a rant here so please forgive me... The Ipad Mini is hands down the Ipad with the upmost potential and popularity. Its the right screen size and portability and if you want the best tablet experence on the market, the Ipad mini has the potential to be it. If you go with an Air or a Pro, you might as well buy the magic keyboard case as well because those make great laptop/tablet hybrids.

The problem with the current mini is laziness. Its got the older processor (well now it is), theres no valid reason why they could not have thrown in face id into the thing, and the screen is just, bad (for an apple product).

If they came out with an Ipad Mini pro with 120HZ screen (be wonderful if it was OLED but ill take LED) and FaceID and fix the scaling issue, id buy that in a heart beat.

I bought the Ipad Mini 6 multiple times, and i tried so hard to love this thing and it just was too compromised compaired to the Ipad Pro 11 inch M2 and my Iphone 14 pro max.

Once you go faceID and 120HZ, going back to that horrid touch id in the power button and that jelly scrolling screen, its like, what are you doing apple, i know you can do so much better and you dont!

The scaling issue is something that can be fixed in software yet they cant be bothered. At least give us that! How is it widgets are bigger on a smaller screen (the Iphone 14 pro max) then on the Ipad Mini, yet its harder to read and use them on the bigger screen of the mini? I cant for the life of me figure that out and why apple allowes that!

The Jelly scrolling is distracting when you look for it, and it feels like you have a defective device when you do notice it. Not the feeling i want when i spent 800 dollars on a premium apple device.

The fingerprint sensors just feel like the worse route they could have went, they are bad compared to the old home screen, idk why they couldent put in a face id or under screen fingerprint sensor into the thing, and whats worse, is its slow!

Im so used to just lifting my iphone or ipad to use it and having my face scanned to unlock, it feels like such a step backwards.

I get it, they made the device to fit a price range, and thats fine but its such a compromized device when it could be a dream ipad for many people. Its the right size to be portable, and not overbearing. It feels good in the hands and you use it, but its just so compromized to me its so fustrating.

Apple, give me a mini version of my current Ipad Pro 11 inch and i am over the moon happy!

Love the mini. TBH - iPadOS (currently) doesn't need a spec bump. It needs:
- OLED
- 120Hz
