Apple Highlights iPhone 14 Pro's Car Crash Detection Feature and More in New Ad

Apple today shared its first ad for the iPhone 14 Pro, highlighting new features like car crash detection, the upgraded rear camera system with a 48-megapixel main lens, and an always-on display with the new Dynamic Island feature.

"iPhone 14 Pro comes with Crash Detection, a vital new safety feature that can detect a severe car crash and automatically call for help, even when you can't," says Apple, in the video's description. "Add this to the new 48MP Pro camera and a totally reimagined display, and iPhone 14 Pro redefines what a smartphone can do. Again."

With a new dual-core accelerometer, barometer, and other sensors, Apple says iPhone 14 Pro models can detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services if a user is unresponsive after a 10-second countdown. Apple says the feature relies on "advanced Apple-designed motion algorithms trained with over a million hours of real-world driving and crash record data" for increased accuracy.

The crash detection feature is also available on the new Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, and second-generation Apple Watch SE models.

Exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models, the Dynamic Island replaces the traditional notch found on iPhone 13 models. Aided by software, the pill-shaped cutout morphs into different shapes and sizes for things such as incoming phone calls, alerts, notifications, Face ID authentication, timers, turn-by-turn navigation, Live Activities, and more.

With an always-on display, the time, widgets, and Live Activities are always available at a glance on iPhone 14 Pro models. The display also has up to 2,000 nits peak brightness outdoors, which is up to twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro display.

iPhone 14 Pro models became available to pre-order earlier today and launch on September 16.

The Crash Detection is just a sad attempt at diverting attention away from the lack of new innovation and trying to tug at heartstrings by playing the protect your loved ones and yourself card.
Same could be said about Fall Detection but it is the #1 selling point for my extended family members. As someone who has lost loved ones to accidents, I appreciate them offering these features. Never know when something like that could happen and you may not be able to reach your device to call for help.

Fall detection is absolutely the reason I was finally sold on the Apple Watch. I have MS and live alone. Falling and not being able to reach help is a serious worry.

Outstanding feature with legitimate hardware improvements to the phone to support it. If you’re in the incredibly small percent that this helps, and saves the life of yourself or someone you care about- you may not be so critical. Apple has continually been on the forefront of their devices helping to protect life, whether through medical monitoring, or falls and accidents.
Stop it! A thoughtful/positive post that addresses a serious situation and concern will earn you no perceived forum cred.

Much better to take a superior everyone else is stupid attitude believing this is a dumb feature and is just another money-grubbing grab by evil Apple playing on people's fears, while letting people know how smart you are.

Great if it convinces you. Apple is laughing all the way to the bank by playing on people's fears.
I didn't order my iPhone 14 for this feature nor do I fear being in an accident, but I appreciate them offering it and hope that I never need to use it. If this brings someone peace of mind, awesome. I seriously doubt people are upgrading their family members devices just for this feature.

First the Fall Detection and now this: Crash Detection. These two features are the most important features that could save lots of lives. The Fall Detection feature alone has been doing great job on saving lots of lives.
This one additional Crash Detection feature hopefully no one will ever need it, but it's there and therefore it makes us feel assured and safer in our road trips.
