Apple Now Offering US Customers $50 Gift Card With Every Apple TV Purchase

After briefly taking down the Apple Store, Apple today began offering U.S. customers a $50 gift card with every Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD purchase made through its online store.

The promotion runs for the next two weeks from July 1 to July 14, and the gift card can only be used for a future Apple purchase. In other words, customers can't use it to knock $50 off the Apple TV they are buying. The Apple TV must be bought through Apple's online store, and the promotion is only open to individual customers.

Apple doesn't regularly offer promotions of this kind, but the company may be clearing inventory to make way for a new Apple TV model. Apple is working on a refreshed version of the Apple TV with an updated A14 chip and 4GB RAM, with the device set to be launched as soon as 2022, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also said that Apple is working on a 2022 refresh of the Apple TV. Kuo believes that the new Apple TV will have an improved cost structure, which suggests a lower price point that is more competitive with other streaming media players.

The TV and discount not so interesting, but that this is what they took the store down for.

Think of what Amazon does on a daily basis let alone Prime Day.

I imagine Apple's online store being like the engine room of the Titanic when they update it for the $50 gift card: people turning huge wheels and shoveling coal to get the thing turned back on as fast as they can.

Might it be that Apple selling the current model with a $50 gift card means that a new model priced at $50 below the current price is imminent?
I don't understand this logic.

A minor bribe on an expensive product. Trying to get rid of old stock before the new one releases?
That’s literally what the article says…

To be fair this is a nice offer, if you’re in the Apple eco-system that is. It brings the cost down to a more palatable level…

How is it that Apple thinks a lower price will sell a failed product? Fire TV is by far the best Smart TV OS, Apple TV needs to skip the Hardware and stick with the App.
Admittedly, I haven’t tried Fire TV but have tried Roku and Android TV boxes. Way too much advertising, slow performance, and freezing content. Exact same media is fine with my ATVs and without advertising. Is Fire TV better than the platforms I mentioned?

But what would that new more powerful model possibly have? The only thing I can think of is turning it into a gaming console of sorts able to play AAA games. And as we all know, there aren't many of those games so it'd be hardware without software. For just media consumption, I don't see anything they could possibly add to it.
Other than just better performance there are still quite a few things they could add (not saying they would add some of these things or that they all require a new chip to do)
