the terrible microphones and sound codec in these threw me off the airpod train

in order to have intelligible conversations, wired earpods is still the only way to go
Really? I've seen these used on national TV interviews a bunch of times and it seemed okay. Personally they don't fit my ears so I'm waiting for the Pro's to be $99. We'll see if that happens. Until then the $20 brandless bluetooth jobs I have work fine.

I'm on my second AirPods Pro replacement. Lots of electrostatic and whistling sounds. IMHO these older airpods worked better than the new ones.

There are YouTube vids comparing the Earpods and various generations of airpods - the difference is stark. AirPods sound terrible in n comparison - warbley, frequent dropouts, and a distinct lesser amount of high frequencies, which is most important for intelligibility.

My personal experience is that the person on the other end often has trouble underetanding me with Airpods. They NEVER have trouble understanding me with wired Earpods.
