Apple Releases iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 3 for iPad [Updatedx3]

Apple today released an update to its iPhone SDK 3.2 for developers looking to create applications for the company's forthcoming iPad tablet device. The new update is the third beta version of the SDK, and there is no word yet on changes included in the update.

The initial version of the SDK was released late last month alongside the iPad introduction, and was last updated two weeks ago.

Update: Apple appears to have pulled the Beta 3 release, and several readers who were able to download the update before it was removed have reported that it contains a major bug that is the likely cause of the removal.

Update 3: Mac4Ever notes that the Photo app also has a Camera tab, which we've seen before referenced in the iPad SDK.

really, the only reason i downloaded the first one was to play with the ipad sim. it was lame @ beta 1. im sure its still lame @ beta 3.

you dont get to know that. only licensed publishers with apple will be available. its kind of like how only certain ppl can make adult apps now (sports illustrated, playboy, etc.)

Isn't this a bit frustrating for developers? I'm no programmer, but isn't it very likely that apple will release a relatively large 4.0 update with new APIs, basically making this a silly interim step to serve iPad owners between now and then?

If I were a programmer, I wouldn't do anything until June. I would lose the initial rush, but I can't believe that that would be worse than quickly making a version of an app that will likely soon be out of date.

yes, you are right... it is a giant pain that apple replaces the ENTIRE thing, every time. huge download and replace, EVERY TIME. it's ridiculous. :mad:

Two things:

1) The initial rush of iPad apps is going to be the only time, as in forever, where your competition will be a relatively low number of iPad specific apps. After some months, apps will get buried as they do now for the iPhone.

2) It's doubtful that the entire app would be out of date. Much of the power of OS4 is speculated to be in the multi-tasking world, with perhaps an even more robust file system. In either case - or many other cases speculated - an app would not likely be "out of date" on the whole. It might benefit from tweaking of course.
