Moment Debuts New 14mm Fisheye Lens for iPhone, Promises Crisper Ultra Wide-Angle Shots

Moment, known for both its Pro Camera app and its line of professional lenses for the iPhone, today debuted its latest lens offering, the Moment Fisheye 14mm Lens. Priced at $119.99 (though available at a discount for the first 48 hours), the Moment Fisheye Lens works with Apple's new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and older iPhones using one of Moment's iPhone photo cases. While Apple's newest iPhones have an ultra wide-angle camera lens with a 13mm focal length and a 120 degree field of view, it's lacking compared to the wide-angle camera because of its higher aperture, lack of optical image stabilization, and smaller sensor. The Moment Fisheye Lens transforms the higher-quality wide-angle camera in the newest iPhones into an ultra wide-angle lens, offering up the same general capabilities but able to take advantage of the better camera technology in the wide-angle lens. According to Moment, the Fisheye lens also offers a 170 degree field of view, which is 30 percent wider than the ultra-wide angle lens, so it gets even more in the frame. There is distortion with a Fisheye lens, of course, but the Pro Camera app for iOS is gaining a new distortion correction option to go along with the new lens. The app will feature a slider that will correct the bend in the image, allowing for a super wide-angle photo with less distortion. The lens screws right on to the Moment ‌iPhone‌ case, making it easy to attach, detach, and swap out with other lenses. The Moment Fisheye Lens features a bi-aspherical design, which Moment says brings

'Moment Air' Anamorphic Drone Lens Launches on Kickstarter for $200

Moment has announced its first accessory for drones called the Moment Air, which launches today on Kickstarter. The new accessory is an anamorphic lens for consumer drones, which can be attached to devices like the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. Moment said that the Moment Air ($299.99; $199 on Kickstarter) delivers cinematic footage thanks to a proprietary design that minimizes lateral chromatic aberration while using a unique set of coatings, which delivers a horizontal flare associated with vintage anamorphics. Because of this, the Moment Air can show off unique flares in different conditions, including sunsets, to make footage stand out. The lens has a 2.40:1 Cinemascope aspect ratio for video and an anti-reflection lens coating. Moment Air includes a unique counterweight system that ensures the accessory is locked and balanced around the drone's camera. Additionally, Moment said that the accessory is light enough to ensure the drone can fly uninterrupted. There is no standard for how to attach and balance a lens on a drone, so we made one. Introducing our Lock and Balance Mounting System. It’s a two part design with a lens on one side and a counterweight on the other. The two parts clamp together over the drone’s camera, creating a secure lock that doesn’t impede the gimbal. There are a few other drone accessories announced by Moment today, including the new Airlight Droner Filters ($119.99; $99 on Kickstarter). These filters enhance drone footage with cinematic glass that provide smooth, color neutral images, without adding unnecessary weight to the

Moment Pro Camera App for iOS Gains Zebra Striping for Displaying Over and Underexposed Areas

Moment, the company behind the popular Moment lenses, today updated its Moment Pro Camera app for iOS devices, adding new features and a new pricing structure. For those unfamiliar with Moment Pro Camera, it's an iOS app that was designed to work with the Moment line of lenses, but those lenses are not required to access the features. The app also works on a standalone basis, offering up full manual photography tools along with other features to improve your iPhone images. The updated Moment Pro Camera app features a new Zebra Stripes option, which is designed to let you see a visual representation of areas that are either under or overexposed so that you can adjust your camera settings. In areas that need adjustment, you'll see stripes in the viewfinder. Focus Peaking has also been added to adjust the focus in photo or video mode. When using manual focus, sharp edges in the viewfinder will be highlighted. On iOS, the pricing on the Moment Pro Camera app is changing from freemium to paid. Previously, you could unlock pro tools within Moment through an in-app purchase, but now the app will require an upfront purchase. Moment is now available from the App Store for $5.99, and to celebrate the launch of the updated app, Moment is offering 15 percent off all of its lenses and gear. [Direct Link]
