Apple Reintroduces MagSafe Battery, for iPhone Air Only

Apple today reintroduced the MagSafe battery specifically for the iPhone Air, featuring an all-new, low-profile design.

The new battery provides the ‌iPhone Air‌ with up to 40 hours of video playback with the pack attached, adding up to 65% additional charge. With the battery attached, the ‌iPhone Air‌ apparently has better battery life than any other iPhone.

Apple says that to maximize battery life, the combined system will choose the best times to recharge the iPhone, or if you need a quick boost, just snap it on for up to 12W of fast wireless charging on the go.

For even faster charging of the ‌iPhone Air‌, Apple says you can attach the ‌MagSafe‌ Battery and connect it to a 20W or higher power adapter at the same time.

The new ‌MagSafe‌ Battery is priced at $99. It is only compatible with the ‌iPhone Air‌.

Apple: “The new Air gets all day battery life.”

Literally 3 seconds later: “We also developed a MagSafe battery pack to give you ACTUAL all day battery life.”

Honestly, based on how bad my experience was with Apple’s first attempt at a MagSafe battery, this is going to be a pass for me.

I tried two different Apple MagSafe batteries—both of which struggled to recharge my iPhone mini consistently, so I ended up getting a $20 Anker that works so much better.

Regardless of the battery performance, people are going to be spouting out how they made it to thin to have a good battery so you have to slap a thick battery on the back to make up for it.
Selling a battery back doesn't mean Apple is saying you're going to need this every day.

They can also sell this just saying that IF you need it one time where you expect to use it more than usually, all day long, and won't be able to charge, here's what we offer. That's it.

Apple also sells AirPods for the iPhone, doesn't mean you HAVE to buy them.

I get why this iPhone exists, I find it super appealing, I just dislike the display size.

Exactly. I WFH and there is a charger at my desk. My phone charge rarely falls below 70%. But if for example I am traveling or out of the house for an entire day, it should be nice to have a little power pack tucked away in another pocket or in my backpack for when the phone reaches low charge. This seems like a win-win to me.

(That said, the cameras on the Air are a non-starter for me so I am not even considering it.)
