I agree it is ridiculous, but as it is a desktop you can use the 256GB for macOS and your apps and then use inexpensive external storage for your data.

As for this model, it only makes sense if you must have native x86 Windows support. Otherwise choose the iMac (24") or wait for the upcoming iMac Pro (27").
