Twitter Testing YouTube Video Playback in Twitter App

Twitter today announced that it is testing a new iOS feature that's designed to allow Twitter users to view YouTube videos right in their timeline without having to swap over to the YouTube app.

Twitter Feature
Starting today, Twitter for iOS users who see a YouTube video in their timeline can watch the video without leaving the Twitter app. Prior to now, watching a YouTube video on Twitter required tapping on a link and opening up the YouTube app on iOS devices.

Twitter will also soon launch a new "Spaces" chat room feature that's similar to social networking app Clubhouse. With Spaces, Twitter offers users public chat rooms that users can create or join. The host who created the Space has speaking privileges to talk to those who join, and can designate up to nine other speakers. Twitter plans to launch Spaces for everyone in April.

This would be a great improvement to the user experience!

It’s like the opposite of what happened when Instagram disallowed previews on Twitter when someone was cross-posting from the former to the latter. [Who else remembers this? It was ages ago, in tech years. ?]

I wonder what this means for YouTube, though. If people aren’t redirected to the YouTube page, then the metrics [views, etc.] won’t register for the YouTube video being viewed. Or did they figure out a way around that? Not that I’m particularly worried about that; I’m just curious.

Hope it supports PIP ?
No shot in that happening. So long as YouTube has PIP locked behind a paywall, there isn't a world in which Twitter would go around that. YouTube could pull their API access and force them back into going backwards in the app.

The bigger question I have is which platform will be pushing the pre-roll ads? Will it be YouTube, as they host the content? Or will we get the Twitter pre-roll ads that currently play on Twitter videos?

They are testing everything <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> except taking €20 off me <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> and not showing me the same <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> pointless ad Tweets every <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> third tweet down <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?>. They’d make way more <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> money doing that than showing <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?> irrelevant ads constantly. <WOULD YOU LIKE TO BUY CHESSE?>
Say CHESSE ?
