Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 18 With Bug Fixes and Feature Tweaks

safaripreviewicon Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March of 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 18 includes bug fixes and updates for Input Events, Javascript, Shadow DOM, Web Inspector, CSS, Rendering, Printing, Web APIs, HTTP Authentication, and more.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's goal with Safari Technology Preview is to receive feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

I really prefer using Safari than Chrome (mostly because I've had a .Mac account ages ago and never changed that, so switching to Google feels like a massive pain today), but I need webRTC support for many of my work apps. Genuinely wondering why Safari still doesn't support this…

WebRTC 1.0 is enabled for Peer-to-Peer in Preview 18. What it current lacks is Data Channel and ObjectRTC API for WebRTC. It's a work in progress.

Webcam access is now enabled, including enumerate devices. It doesn't currently have media stream recording.
