Telstra Giving Away Free 12-Month Trial of Apple Music with Go Plans

Australia's largest mobile carrier today announced that it would give away a free 12-month trial of Apple Music with a 12 or 24 month Go Mobile plan on iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. The deal marks the first time the new music service will be given away with a mobile plan.

Additionally, the carrier's notes on the promotion indicate that the service will use carrier billing. When users sign up and agree to the terms and conditions Apple Music's payment will be paid via the Telstra rather than Apple directly. This means that users have to renew or cancel their trial through their carrier bill.

Last week, T-Mobile announced that it would add Apple Music to its Music Unlimited service, allowing Simple Choice customers to listen to the streaming music service without the cellular data counting against their 4G LTE data plan. Unlike the Telstra deal, users are not given a free trial to the service by T-Mobile.

Just signed up as per the instructions above. Just waiting for the text to confirm and process the request. Easy as pie.

If you have already subscribed to Apple Music, make sure you cancel your subscription before trying to link your Apple ID and Telstra in the Music app.

It took me longer than I want to admit working this out...

Pay Tel$tra heaps more for data to save $12 a month for Apple Music. Handy only if you're with Telstra for their better rural coverage

From the terms and conditions i see this "Only one Telstra Introductory Apple Music offer per MSISDN" and "If you sign up and agree to T&Cs to put Apple Music on your Telstra account this will roll on to a paying subscription at the end of the trial / free period unless you cancel it. You will receive an SMS 3 days prior to rolling over to a paid subscription."
Firstly, what is an MSISDN, and secondly, it seems they have some sort of deal together and it extends your 'free trial' to the 12 month length, but it does overwrite your current trial period as the terms state that any existing offer is cancelled.
It would seem better and more useful if they included the data as unmetered. Thats the biggest problem these days with any phone service i think, way too much streaming and nowhere near enough data, i get 1.5gb a month, barely enough for normal app download and web streaming

It is?

Yes, go to your Telstra Account online. Select the phone on your plan, find and then click on "add ons" at the righthand side of the page, "purchase" apple music. If it doesn't add straightaway and you get a text message indicating it wasn't successful, don't worry they are having issues with the system. I chatted with Telstra online and they assured me the service will be available to all existing and Post paid customers (iPhone first, then android later).

Nice touch. We still need more disruption within the industry worldwide.

As for free data, Telstra told me that this is something that has to be negotiated with Apple (not sure why), and that [the representative] was not privy to those discussion.
