Sony Releases PlayStation Communities iOS App

by

Sony has released a new PlayStation Communities iOS app that allows players to interact with fellow PS4 gamers from their Apple phones and tablets.

The app works much like a forum portal: Players using the app can search for, join, and interact with groups, where they can post messages and images on a community wall. Members can stick to chatting about gaming or join groups to set up multiplayer games.

PlayStation Communities are places where you can find players who have similar interests and preferences.
Within a Community, you can join parties and launch into games with other Community members, or talk about your shared interests. For instance, if you’re having trouble finding players to tackle Destiny’s newest raid, Wrath of the Machine, a Destiny community may help you fill out your fireteam.

The PlayStation Communities app joins two other Sony apps for its console – a flagship PlayStation app released three years ago, and a PlayStation Messages app released in 2015.

PlayStation Communities is a free download for iPhone and iPad available on the App Store.

What's with the incessant need to break out functions into separate apps? Messages worked fine when it was part of the core PS4 app and I don't see how this couldn't either.

Why do they have to create a separate app for every single feature? Just put it in the PlayStation App.

If you compare the Xbox app to the PS app, the PS app looks and feels light years behind. So I agree.
I would extend that statement to the PS4's OS - it took them almost three years to integrate a useful quick menu in 4.00 and even that is only very rudimental.

Seems like software just isn't Sonys strong suit.

Sorry, it was early when I posted; you're right it's just called the PlayStation App.

I do like the immediate view of the friends list on the PS4 app, because that's essentially what I need it for. But the "Connect to PS4" and "Links" tabs at the bottom are completely useless to me. Doesn't help that the top navigation bar is confusing and hard to reach with an iPhone Plus:(

Not to mention the main PS app could use a nice refresh at the moment.
