TomTom Car Kit to Be Compatible With iPod Touch and Other GPS iPhone Applications?
In the wake of the release of TomTom iPhone GPS navigation applications in numerous countries, Mac4Ever spoke [Google translation] with TomTom public relations manager Yann Lafargue and received clarification that the forthcoming companion car kit will be compatible with the iPod touch and will also support GPS navigation applications by other companies.
"It will work with the iPod touch and will also work with third-party GPS applications."
Lafarque is unable to provide information on when the car kit will be released, although posters to TomTom's official Twitter account have confirmed the announcement made at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference that it is scheduled to ship "later this summer" with additional specs and pricing coming closer to the kit's release.Top Rated Comments

So it's a GPS antenna that overrides the iPhone internal one. Brilliant.

Now, that sounds interesting indeed. If even the iPod Touch would be able to use navigation, that would be nice. It's also quite interesting to see that navigation software of other companies is also supported.

whaaaa So I can use NAVIGON with it if NAVIGON adds the support?
This could be interesting.
TomTom will probably make more money if they did this, heck I might buy it but there is no way I would buy the car kit otherwise.

Well that's nice of them. So i save 30 bucks on navigon and still get the car kit. anyone think the car kit bundled with the tom tom app will be cheaper?
I think it'll be $25 with the app, and $40 seperately. so then i'll only save like 15 bucks..

Well, it will work with applications that support the external hardware framework. This thing isn't going to work out of the box with other GPS applications unless THEY support it.

This sounds cool. Hope this doesn't turn into an excuse for them raising prices on it though

Leaked European pricing suggests the cradle will cost about $60-70 when bundled with the app.
