Fandango Now Lets You Buy Movie Tickets Through Its Instagram Page

Fandango today added a "Buy Tickets" button on the company's Instagram profile, letting visitors to the page purchase tickets to films currently in theaters as well as pre-order tickets for unreleased movies (via The Hollywood Reporter). The move is said to be part of an overall push by Instagram into a "shoppable tags" commerce feature, and comes after the social network debuted a native payments option for select users last week. The Buy Tickets button sits to the right of Fandango's existing Shop button on its Instagram profile, and when you tap it a mobile.fandango.com page loads with movies both now playing and coming soon. You can choose a film, find a showtime, and sign into your Fandango account (or check out as a guest) to complete the purchase. "As millions of movie fans have gravitated to social media platforms to discover, share and engage with their favorite movie content, Fandango has been essential to that experience, offering ticketing capabilities and access to the most comprehensive network of U.S. theaters," said Fandango president Paul Yanover. "We're very excited to integrate ticketing into our Fandango Instagram, and look forward to working with our studio partners to help transform consumer passion into advance ticket purchases." Instagram has featured ads that users can tap and purchase items with for over two years, but it's important to note that Fandango's initiative is housed entirely on the company's profile page and won't be a sponsored Instagram post. Movies Anywhere Expands Digital Retailer Support With New Partner FandangoNOW

Last October, Disney announced that its "Disney Movies Anywhere" service would be expanding to become simply "Movies Anywhere," allowing customers to collect all of their digital films into one centralized location. Previously, the digital retailers supporting the service were iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, VUDU, and Google Play, but today the latest retailer has joined: FandangoNOW. FandangoNOW is the ticketing service company's video on-demand service, and now users who stream and purchase films on FandangoNOW will see their content piped to Movies Anywhere. This means that when using the Movies Anywhere app and website, FandangoNOW customers can access eligible digital movies from studios including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios (encompassing Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm), Twentieth Century Fox Film, Universal Pictures (including DreamWorks and Illumination Entertainment), and Warner Bros. Once a FandangoNOW account is connected to Movies Anywhere, users can watch their redeemed digital films on multiple supported devices with Movies Anywhere apps, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, Amazon Fire devices, Android and Android TV, Chromecast, Roku, and on Mac and PC. Fandango Announces Apple Watch Movie Ticket App

Fandango announced late last night that its popular movie ticket buying service will be featured in a full-fledged Apple Watch app when the device launches on April 24. Eagle-eyed viewers may have caught a glimpse of the app in yesterday's debut of the new ad for the Apple Watch, but the company's announcement brings more details on the online ticketing service's upcoming app for Apple's new wearable. Ticket purchasing and checking out will still occur on Fandango's official website, according to the company, with the new Watch app acting mainly as a retainer for a user's purchased tickets. Following the syncing of a user's account on the Apple Watch, a "mobile barcode ticket" will appear on the Watch app, which the company says can be scanned by the ticket-taker at a movie theater for "easy access to the theater." “Fandango continues to build award-winning iOS apps that leverage Apple’s latest technologies including Siri and Passbook, enabling fans to easily discover new movies, get the latest trailers, information and buy tickets,” said Fandango President Paul Yanover. “We’re excited to be one of the first apps available for Apple Watch, which takes movie-going to a whole new level by providing quick access, once you’ve purchased tickets, to movie times, theater location and more movie info conveniently on your wrist.
