1Password Teases Safari Web Extension Already Working on iPadOS 15

With the introduction of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Safari extensions that previously only worked on the Mac can also run on the iPhone and iPad. While the feature won't be widely available until the fall when the new updates roll out to the public, 1Password, a popular password management app, has already teased a functional Safari extension on iPadOS 15.

Shared by 1Password developer Andrew Beyer on Twitter, the in-development 1Password iPadOS 15 extension allows users to access their saved passwords quickly, create new passwords, edit existing accounts, and more.

The 1Password extension will also work on the ‌iPhone‌ running iOS 15. Similar to on macOS, Safari extensions on iOS and iPadOS 15 are easily accessible through the main toolbar. On iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey, Safari received noteworthy updates, including major redesigns, enhanced security, and on iOS and iPadOS, the ability to pull down on a tab to refresh.

Nice to see. Will be interesting to see if they can keep ahead of Apple, as they add more password management functionality to the OS.

As some have said, it's only the lack of a Windows or web-based option for the Apple password manager that's keeping them using 1Password currently.

Too bad it's exclusive to Apple. If it were available for Firefox I'd definately try it out.

What is the benefit of an extension over the existing integration for 3rd party password managers in iOS?
A few things I can think of off-hand:

1. Ability to fill more complex forms, such as https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/login/loginInitial which Password AutoFill can't currently handle due to it being limited to filling two fields
2. Much easier access to the password generator, which has been a long standing request
3. Ability to fill Credit Card and Identity items, which Password AutoFill hasn't opened up for 3rd party password managers at this point

Keychain is fine as long as you only need rudimentary password management. 1Password creates an encrypted enclave for a lot of sensitive information (my family stores SS cards, DLs, birth certificates, certification docs, insurance cards, etc) and that, along with the family sync, is really valuable to us.

What is the KEY difference between iCloud Keychain and 1Password? :x
There are a tons, just read any of the previous threads about 1Password.

But, for me, the reason I will stay with 1password is multiple vaults, including being able to share specific vaults with others in my family. I keep all my streaming passwords in a vault that shared with everyone. My financial passwords are shared ONLY with my and wife. An my personal and work passwords are only available to me.

Other features I like:
Store more than password and Credit Cards. I store documents, ID information, etc. all in 1Password
Tags and Categories. I tag my passwords so I don't have to search through hundreds of passwords for the right one.
Multiple URLs associated with the same user entry.
Even with the new Password panel in Monterey, 1P is still much easier to navigate than keychain.
