Netatmo Video Doorbell With HomeKit Now Available to Order in U.S. and Canada, Ships Early January

French accessory maker Netatmo today announced that its Smart Video Doorbell with HomeKit support is now available to pre-order for $299.99 in the United States and $399.99 in Canada. The doorbell will begin shipping to customers in these countries starting January 6, 2021, as noted by the blog HomeKit News.

As with other video doorbells, the Smart Video Doorbell lets you see and speak to visitors at your door, even when you're not home. HomeKit support allows the doorbell to be managed in the Home app and with Siri. HomeKit also allows the doorbell to work with automation scenes; for example, when the Smart Video Doorbell detects a person, the home's outdoor lights can switch on automatically to deter a potential intruder.

In addition to the Home app, the doorbell works with the free Netatmo Security app. Netatmo previously said that it is working to implement HomeKit Secure Video and will make the feature available in a free software update in the future.

Key features of the Smart Video Doorbell include a 1080p camera with a 140-degree wide-angle lens, infrared night vision, a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way communication, customizable settings like people detection zones, and IP44-rated water and dust resistance. Netatmo does not charge any subscription fees; instead, the doorbell is equipped with an 8GB microSD card for local video storage.

First introduced at CES 2019, the Smart Video Doorbell launched in Europe in September.

I have one of these so am well placed to comment. Dare I say unlike many of the people who have posted in this thread so far.....

I think the unit looks far nicer than Ring video bells. It has a good build quality and looks like it costs as much as it did. The picture both in day and night vision is very good. It integrates well with HomeKit and the playback from the integral card via the Netatmo Security app works well. It records video when it detects motion so works well as a security camera. You can choose to be notified when motion is detected or just let the video save and view it later without being notified, if you prefer.

I had some installation issues but Netatmo support were helpful and they were soon sorted out. As it’s wired in there’s no recharging to worry about, my existing door chime works plus my HomePods ring too when someone is at the door. Nice.

Although it looks pretty obvious to me what you have to press to ring the bell I’ve had 2 people so far try to push the camera ?

Yes this is more expensive than some doorbells but it has excellent weather protection plus all the benefits listed above. HKSV will be nice and there’s a menu item for it in the app already, but to be honest you don’t really need it as the integral card works fine, even remotely, and you can upload to DropBox or your own remote FTP server as a backup if you want to.

And the person who said they’re easy to steal? That applies to everything outside your house but I’d say it’s not at all easy to get off the wall. I’ve tried whereas the person who wrote that comment clearly hasn’t.

I’m going to get flamed for saying some of the things I’ve written above and everyone is, of course, welcome to their opinion but it does frustrate me when people post negative things about products based on no knowledge of them whatsoever.

Just my 2p’s worth. ? Taking cover...

$300 for "pending" Homekit Secure Video support, when Logitech has already shipped a high quality $200 HSV doorbell and wired camera?

I guess if local storage means that much to you, this is your only alternative.
This is the key. Too often "pending" turns into, "Well, you need to buy the 2.0 Smart Video Doorbell, sorry, we'll give you $25 off" to actually get it.

$299 and it's only 1080p? Should be at least 1440p for that price.

I can’t understand the concept of mounting an expensive item to the outside surface of your front wall. It would be extremely easy for someone to pry it off the wall since it is surface mounted. A peep hole mounted camera makes way more sense as it is secured through the door and on the inside. Before LivePD got cancelled, they showed the video of a thief stealing a similar item.
