As seen on Slashdot, it seems that someone has finally written (albeit a really early version of) an ATA driver for the Apple Newton. Paul Guyot's work-in-progress is on its way to smoothly providing a way for NewtonOS 2.x users to use one of the now-super-abundnat ATA Flash cards with their devices, rather than having to use the rather difficult to find SRAM or Linear Flash cards.
