Infinity Field HD First App to Include Multiplayer Joypad Support

Infinity Field HD, a space shooter from Forzefield Studios, has been updated with extensive Joypad support. Joypad is a separate app that allows gamers to control supported games on an iPad or Mac from their iPhone, turning it into a wireless virtual controller with a configurable set of buttons.

Infinity Field HD is the first app to include multiplayer Joypad support, allowing two players to play the game in co-op multiplayer mode on one iPad while controlling it from two iPhones, as shown in this video:


iOS developers have been pushing the boundaries of what's possible on Apple's gaming platform. Last year, Firemint used AirPlay to project a game on a television via an AppleTV, and used an iPad as a second screen to control the game.

Infinity Field is available for the iPhone or the iPad, for $0.99 or $1.99 respectively on the App Store. Joypad is free, while Joypad Elite is $11.99 and includes a number of skins from classic console controllers. Select skins are available via in-app purchase from the main Joypad app, as well.

Fifa 12 has had that for quite a while, it's not the first one!

this would be great if you could instal games on the AppleTV that run on the appleTV but are controlled with an iPhone or iPad, i think games like scrabble, yatzee, monopoly (just to name a few) would be great if they ran that way rather than with the lag of airplay mirroring

I'm not really a gamer but the idea of running a full featured video game off of an iOS device and controlling it with other iOS devices is very cool. Way more expensive than a traditional video game console, of course, but perhaps if this technology is developed further, Apple may one day be able to compete with Sony and Microsoft for home video game dominance? The multitouch interface seems like it would be a really fantastic controller in certain instances.

Amazingly cool idea. Especially as it seems quite cheap to set up, considering how many people already have iPhones.

No wires required, and iOS games tend to be easier to pick up than console games.

*(yes the hardware is expensive but it's not dedicated hardware. You could argue that console games also require a TV, an electric supply, a chair / sofa, and a house to put it all in. That's expensive too, but it isn't dedicated hardware.)

And there's BombSquad for the Mac (which is loads of fun) that can be controlled with iOS devices as well as loads of other controllers such as the Wiimote, PS 2 (?) controller etc....

Are the exposure settings really that washed out in the game, or did they just use a crappy camera to advertise? I am thinking of shelling out a few bucks for this..

Whoa .. at least you have to spend $199 (8GB iPod Touch) for a not so ergonomic gamepad, and only works on one app? :eek:

If only Sony would allow PS3 gamepad to be used on iOS devices (as both use bluetooth) .. then we're talking about REAL gamepad :D
