Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.6.4 Build 10F564 to Developers

As noted by 9 to 5 Mac, Apple has seeded yet another new build of Mac OS X 10.6.4, this one termed Build 10F564, to developers for testing. The new version carries a mysterious increase of 506 numbers since Build 10F58 released one week ago, although it is possible that the new number is the result of a typo and is meant to have been a more reasonable 10F64 number.

Regardless, the new build continues to list no known issues in the update and carries no documentation in its seed notes of additional changes since the last seed. Developers are once again asked to focus their testing on Graphics Drivers, SMB, USB, Voice Over and VPN.

So... not much to say about this is there? Same as the last one.

Just release it already, I want those improved graphics drivers. They didn't even change or update anything with this build.

I'm looking for those graphics driver fixes myself. The hope is a snappier MBP (early 2008 model). That and I'm really hoping for a more stable Quicktime movie playback experience.

As it is right now there are two things that bug me about 10.6 on that MBP. One is the slow response to mouse clicks in the GUI sometimes accompanied with a beach ball. The other is Quicktime occasionally hanging up for moments at a time or in one case forcing a reboot.

These are 10.6 specific problems but thankfully 10.6 eliminated most of the problems in 10.5. So I can't go back.

The kernel was re- compiled. And there are some changes.

Maybe Westmere's AES-NI are being made use of now. Although GLSL 1.30 would be the big new thing if it's present.

Hopefully we'll see an improvement in the nVidia drivers but with that being said I would sooner a consistent experience rather than hyper-optimised drivers that result in an inconsistent experience when it comes to OpenGL.

All my issues were fixed in 10.6.3 so I hope they don't rush the 10.6.4, just make team fortress 2 run well, that all I need.

I wonder what the hell happened with the build number? For anyone with this update, is the real build 10F64 (meaning that the number listed on the web is just a typo)?

Oh I’d really like to see an improvement in the nVidia drivers. Namely I’d like to see the DVI-output to to my 40” TV to work without constantly blinking on-off . 10.6.3 broke that and now I need to keep running 10.6.2 from a backup… but otherwise I’m not in a hurry .
