'Documents to Go' Updated With Cut, Copy and Paste, Pinch to Zoom, and More

iPhone Alley points out that DataViz has recently updated its Documents to Go office suite for the iPhone to add several new features, the most important of which is the inclusion of support for Apple's systemwide cut, copy, and paste tools. The suite comes in two flavors: a basic version [App Store, $4.99] and an enhanced version [App Store, $9.99] offering support for Microsoft Exchange attachments.

New features include:

- Cut/copy/paste across all supported OS 3.0 apps (OS 3.0 req'd)
- Send files via e-mail (OS 3.0 req'd)
- Full screen view (Ability to hide title bar and toolbar)
- Pinch zooming

Unfortunately, the ability to edit Excel spreadsheet documents is still not included in the Documents to Go suite. At Documents to Go's initial launch last month, the spreadsheeting editing functionality was promised to be included in a future free upgrade which is apparently still under development.

Does this allow you to format (change font, font size, bold, etc) MS Word documents, or only type
and cut/copy/paste to edit MS Word documents?

(I would assume having the addtional RAM of the 3GS makes a huge difference)

Yeah, it has those. Runs like butter on my 3GS.

For some reason it doesn't include the ability to change the font type or size.

The ability to email the file is really nice though. It uses the built in mail and doesn't even exit the app! I didn't realize 3.0 supported this attachment functionality. Also sliding your finger on the toolbar for more formatting is very nice, along with the ability to edit full screen with a tap of the finger, which is also supported in landscape mode. You can also toggle the toolbar on or off with a single tap. This interface is very effective and polished. Now it only needs a few more features.

By the way, you can't copy and paste images into the document, which is unfortunate

Hmm, would anyone who has both QuickOffice and Docs to Go say it's better than QuickOffice? I need an office suite on my iPod touch and I'm unsure on which one to choose. Money is not a huge deciding factor, but I need basic functionality.

I have both and Docs To Go has Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a PDF viewer. Docs to go has much more functionality (formatting of Word Docs) along with the other advertised functions. At this point, Docs to Go is the better app, imo.

I'm like you SnowLeopard2008. I've been going back and forth on which one to buy. I'm leaning toward QO for a few reasons. I don't like the idea of a desktop client and WiFi transfer is nice. Email attachments is also something that is important to me. I would be nice to receive an email and be able to work from the attachment.

Hey guys,

Tell me what you do with documents to go on the iPhone, if you don't mind. I'd like to hear about what it can do.... To me it sounds like a good user interface thingy, but to do what kind of things is my question.

NeoOffice is working on an iPhone version. I think I'll wait for that. Now that Notes can synch and work in landscape mode, I'll get by with that until a "real" office suite emerges.
