iTunes 7.7 and Mac OS X 10.5.4 Soon

Some of Apple's new products which are due in early July suggest we'll see two updates by then, one for Mac OS X and another for iTunes.

MobileMe's terms of service suggest that you need Mac OS X 10.5.4 as well as iTunes 7.7. Meanwhile, the system requirements for the iPhone 3G also list iTunes 7.7 as a requirement.

The current version of Mac OS X is 10.5.3 and was released only two weeks ago while iTunes is at version 7.6.

Apple's got their stuff together.

I had never considered a .Mac account. The announcement today ensured they're getting another chunk of my money.

So, I'll be upgrading to these versions as soon as they hit. I just hope they don't break 10.5.3, as they finally fixed one of my two complaints in their graphics fix for the G4 Mini.

The iTunes requirement is fairly obvious for the iPhone, since it will need a new version for the App Store. But it seems surprising that MobileMe would need it.

And the 10.5.4 mention is also obvious, since they need to re-brand it from .Mac to MobileMe throughout the OS. It could be that that's all 10.5.4 contains, but it will probably contain other bugfixes, too.

(Obnoxiousness removed from quoted post, P.S. the Apple logo with the code ": apple :" (without spaces,) renders at a fixed pixel size, regardless of what font size you ask for.)

As in NEW MACBOOK PROS?!

Um, no...

The new iPhone and the re-branded MobileMe, formerly .Mac. The announcement says that in the very next sentence.

While it is entirely possible, if not probable, that MacBook Pros are coming, that's not what is being referred to here.

hope the update has more than just iPhone 2.0 compatibility.

The update probably bundles all of the MobileMe program updates (Mail, iCal, etc.) together instead of having individual installers.

I'm just interested in what other fixes Apple is trying to iron out for the next release.
