MacBook Pro Upgrade At Photokina? [Update]
MacShrine believes that Apple will update the MacBook Pro to use Core 2 Duo "Merom" processors at Photokina (in addition to the anticipated Aperture 1.2 update). According to the site, Apple will employ the 2.33 and 2.16 GHz variants of the chip, however there is no mention of any other updates (enclosure, etc). The MacBook Pro was last updated in April 2006 with the introduction of the 17" model.
At this time, MacBook updates are not expected despite consistent worldwide shortages, which was anticipated in Apple's most recent financial conference call.
Apple will be hosting a special event on September 25th (just before the beginning of photokina, which begins on the 26th).
A previous Page 2 story claimed MacBook speed-bump updates on September 25th.
MacOSXRumors also claims that the Merom MacBook Pro will be announced at the event.

Sounds good. Hope it happens for those waiting for it.
I also hope the design is revamped i.e. magnetic latch etc.
Maybe an ACD update to boot?

So, how is MacShrine perceived in the rumor community? Do they have a sufficiently good track record for us to say, "this is it - the Merom MBP is finally coming", or is this likely to be just another rehash of all the Core2Duo MBP hype/frustration going around?

Yeah, i'd be sad if they just dropped a new processor in there. I'd want a new video card at the very least, and maybe DL burners in the 15" would be nice.

Woot hopefully price drops too :) I'm wanting to upgrade my MacBook and get some more power in here (and get a real GPU, not some crappy Intel fake).

It's very logical that updated MacBook Pro's will be announced. The current MacBook Pro's are referred to by Apple as "Early 2006".

2.16 and 2.33 Merom options
Magnetic latch
MacBook style keyboard
New video card (Nvidia?)
160GB hard drive option
IMO, these are the least that Apple can do to keep up with other high performance notebooks in the market. I think new MBP's will arrive one the same day as Photokina although they may not be highlighted at the event.
