Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 229 With Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser that was first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ to allow users to test features that are planned for future release versions of the Safari browser.

Safari Technology Preview Updated Feature 1
‌Safari Technology Preview‌ 229 includes fixes and updates for Accessibility, CSS, Events, Forms, JavaScript, Networking, SVG, Storage, Web API, Web Inspector, WebDriver, and WebGPU.

The current ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ release is compatible with machines running macOS Sequoia and macOS Tahoe, the newest version of macOS.

The ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser from Apple's website. Complete release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while it is designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download and use.

in all seriousness i've been noticing major lag switching tabs and such lately in Safari for no apparent reason ... so i'm kinda hoping that's fixed

Since a recent update, and continuing into Tahoe, I find that the icons on tabs in Safari change to being a single letter in a grey box when Safari (or macOS) restarts. Mostly, only when I access that tab does it update to the favicon.

It is as if Safari is not caching the favicon but has to go and fetch it afresh.

A row of grey icons varying, if at all, only by the single capital letter, is not very helpful.

Is this issue fixed?

Why people need to have "fun" and broken mess of everything with serious software and operating systems? Safari is already half-broken after "fun" Tahoe redesign. I would much prefer boring and incremental updates if it would make Safare up-to-date to every web api on caniuse.com, without lagging behind for years on some useful ones. If we need to have fun, there is other forms of media like movies and games, i don't want to have fun with shiny unreadable buttons and time-spending animations.

I remember the Jobs days, when Apple was really proud of Safari, especially as it concerned standard compliance and compatibility.

Since Blink got forked out of WebKit, they're lagging behind. I guess Tim Cook doesn't care when you can't convert it to service revenue (A better mobile web might mean less app store sales!).
