Monument Valley Developers Release 'Alba: a Wildlife Adventure' on Apple Arcade

Ustwo Games, the studio that created the popular "Monument Valley" and "Assemble With Care" games for iPhone and iPad, today released "Alba: a Wildlife Adventure" on Apple Arcade.

Set on a sunny island brimming with fauna, the casual adventure game invites players to explore the game world as protagonist Alba, who turns activist and founds a wildlife protection league after discovering and helping a stranded dolphin on the beach.

Join Alba as she visits her grandparents on a Mediterranean island. She is ready for a peaceful summer of wildlife exploration with her friend Ines, but when she sees an animal in danger, she realizes she needs to do something about it!

This is truly a Mediterranean paradise if you ignore all the litter! From the idyllic beaches to the ancient castle overlooking the town a whole island is ready to be explored. With Ines and your grandfather - who is a total bird nerd - by your side, you can start the movement to save the island. Maybe even the world after that.

As Alba, players must speak to characters in the local town and convince them to volunteer for an organization that can save the island and its furry and feathered inhabitants.

Described as "a feel-good game about running around and doing good deeds," the title invites players to experience a "Mediterranean Summer filled with friendship, family and nature." It features handcrafted visuals throughout and a Spanish soundtrack by Lorena Alvarez.

"Alba: a Wildlife Adventure" is available on Steam for PC, and on ‌Apple Arcade‌ now for iOS, macOS, and tvOS. ‌Apple Arcade‌‌‌‌ is priced at $4.99 per month, and that price point allows the whole family to play games without ads or additional in-app purchases.

Surprised Apple allows a game that seemingly is about taking photos of great tits.

What a shame. I don’t do software rentals, so I’ll have to give this a miss. Based on their previous output I would have been ready to hand over my money for a cash purchase.

We’re not all living a cold sequestered COVID experience. You see, this morning was bicycling on a beautiful Oregon beach and walked through the redwoods at Avenue of the Giants this afternoon. 15,000 mile circling of the United States of blessed America while all of you hid the past year. Glad you did because it was glorious getting it all to ourselves. You are sequestered only because you imprison yourselves So I have no pity. Not us. We live free. We live loud and proud. Waste away in your prison cell. I’m going outside to play! No amount of shrill screeching from you social justice warriors will influence me to do otherwise. Adios amigos!

Given the cold dark sequestered COVID existence we're all still living in, even an hour of exploring a sunny island, beach, forest etc. interacting with animals and nature that looks like this, is only going to benefit mental health. Even watching the trailer makes your inner self scream "YES! FREEDOM! *sigh*"

If I can’t buy it for iOS without a subscription I’m not interested.
There sure are a lot of whiners about Apple Arcade. People put a lot of work and continued support into games and Apple Arcade allows game developers to trust that they’ll continue receiving payment to continue development on a game as long as there is a demand to play it.

Apple Arcade allows for games to break the old $1.99 or free paradigm with endless in-app purchases, ads, and a mindset that leads to pay-to-win being the only way your game brings in money to make it worth making and continuing to support. Those sorts of games are harmful to those with certain personality types. No more spending $5.99 on a bunch of gold/resources or candy hammers that make the puzzle stage you’re stuck on easier. (I will never understand that last one)

Getting Apple Arcade included in a bundle with other things.. it makes a lot more sense.
