Mophie's $70 Wireless Charge Stream Desk Stand Now Available for Purchase

Mophie's newest wireless charger, the Charge Stream Desk Stand, is now available for purchase from the Mophie website for $70.

Designed to work with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max, and XR, Mophie's Charge Stream Desk Stand is its first upright wireless charging option, designed to hold the iPhone in an upright vertical or horizontal position while it charges rather than a flat horizontal position.

Mophie's Charge Stream looks a lot like Mophie's Charge Stream Pad+ or Wireless Charging Base propped up with a metal stand, and that's because it can be removed from the base and used as a standard wireless charging pad.

The Charge Stream delivers up to 10W of wireless charging power, and it will charge Apple's iPhones at the faster 7.5W charging speed. A Quick Charge 2.0 wall adapter and a 1.5m USB-A to micro-USB cable are included to power the Charge Stream.

Just looking at this thing helps to demonstrate that the advantage of wireless charging is pretty minimal. People like upright stand chargers like this, so how much extra trouble is it to dock the phone such that the lightning cable charges the phone?

I bought a $9 wireless charger (7.5w too) a year ago and it’s still working great. $70 for one of these is ridiculous

Why not just use a dock at this point?

Hardly looks better than if some guy on a forum posted his shots of a 3D printed stand he made for their charger. At the very least they should have run the cord through the bottom. What were their industrial designers thinking??

So much this - flip the charging puck so the cord is at the bottom, run it through some sort of clip to hold the cable in place, and it would have looked... utilitarian, something you might have bought inexpensively at Target. But this? With the cord coming off the top for no useful reason? It looks like a joke design someone put in the design competition to make sure that none of the actual contestants come out in last place. What, did Mophie have a bunch of pucks already manufactured with their name in that orientation, and they didn't want it to be upside down? It's bad design.

I really don't get this stand, a lightning charting port would be doing the job better, charges faster and is not much different.
